Bridesmaid Lotto

The title of this blog is not what you think it is. No, I am not engaged and am doing a lottery to pick out my bridesmaids. It is in fact a book called Bridesmaid Lotto. Now, typically I don't pick out books that are cheesy and girly. I tend to go for more of an action, futuristic, adventurous book, but it was only $2.99 in the iTunes store! Sometimes a girl just needs a cheesy romantic comedy to make her feel better.

The reason I read Bridesmaid Lotto is because the last great book I read has put me into a slump. I've been searching for something that will even come close to it and I just haven't found it yet. BTW it was Divergent and then the next part of the trilogy Insurgent (the third part doesn't come out till this fall and I'm completely bummed about it! Amazing books). I can write another blog on the Veronica Roth amazingness and how she is going to be one of the greatest authors ever, just my opinion though. Just a tad off topic.

I surpisingly enjoyed Bridesmaid Lotto, because it was the perfect way to get me out of my funk. You know when you finish a great book it's hard to pick up another because you think it can't possibly compare to the awesomeness that you just read? I think the trick is that you have to pick up a book that is part of a different genre. Divergent, is a futuristic dystopia, kind of like Hunger Games but better, and yes I really did say better. They are two completely different styles of writing, genre, voices, setting and anything else you can think of.

It is about a famous actress who, instead of picking her friends as her Bridesmaids she decides to have a lottery with the public. There are four winners and her fiance's brother is a famous actor, hottie who is looking to settle down. The winners all have the potential to win his heart. Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, most of it is predictable like any other romantic comedies. And yes, I loved it. Not only was it a great way to get me out of my reading funk but it was just a fun read. It wasn't a book that I just couldn't put down but it was a nice leisure book that I felt like I knew the character.

I have to admit though, sometimes while reading the book I found typos and grammatical errors, and if your already reading my blog, you've noticed I'm not great at grammar and I occasionally screw up my spelling. But I do write for two B2B magazines and trust me we skim through those and find any errors possible. I'm really not sure what her editors were doing.

Anywho, I just wanted to share with you that I've found the key to a reading funk. If you've just read a great book, enjoy it, take it in and then choose a completely different topic. It made it a lot easier because I wasn't comparing it to the other book I just read (I did do that between the Hunger Games and Divergent and it was annoying). Read something that just makes you feel good. :)
