I am always looking for free things to attend, even though I'm not very good at finding them or getting to attend them. Someone at work put a bunch of flyers in the break room/kitchen for a Winter Fest in Detroit. Sorry if you don't live in Detroit or metro-Detroit, this won't really work for you but you could look for local festivals in your area.
The Winter Fest in Detroit is from noon-4pm on Saturday February 23, 2013. They are going to have a bunch of activities that sound like a lot of fun:
- Cross-Country Skiing/Hiking - pending on the weather it will either be skiing or hiking
- Crafts & Adventures for Children - (I don't have any kids but, if you do then it's a great way to get them out of the house and have some fun)
- Horse & Carriage Ride - I got to do one of these up at Crystal Mountain one year with the whole family and it was a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be!
- Ice Skating & Skate Exchange - if you have old skates that no longer fit you can take them to the skate exchange. They didn't say if they would also have skates to rent so take yours along or stop at a Play-It-Again-Sports and pick up a cheap pair for the day and then sell them back!
- Food & Beverages - now who doesn't love some food and drinks. They are going to have a variety for every. So, if you're vegetarian or have a food allergy they are going to have stuff for you too.
- And to top it all off they are going to have a Doggie Fashion Parade! - I love this idea. It is at 2pm and they are going to have prizes for all the winners and anyone can register, you just have to have a dog or at least one you can borrow (with their permission) from a friend.
- Plus they are going to have live music and a warm-up tent.
The website for the event is peopleforpalmerpark.org. I hope I can get someone to go to the event with me because it sounds like a lot of fun and they are going to have a bunch of fun stuff to do there for free! Who doesn't love free activities?!
