Monday Monthly Update

It's the first of the month and that means - debt update!! I say it like I'm so excited to talk about how much I'm in debt, which I actually kind of am this month. I did so great all last month not buying anything that I'm going to keep it going for the month of April, minus today because I did buy 2 new infinity scarves at JuicyDealz. I mean, you can't expect a girl NOT to buy something when the seasons are changing. Plus the scarves were on sale for 8.99! It was my treat for going all month without buying something and it was still under $50. I'm going to start setting aside $50 with each paycheck that I can use to "splurge" that way I sort of force myself to save if I really want something. So here is my monthly update on my debt.

Monthly payment amount

Student loan 1   7,845.35                                    25.00
Student loan 2   31,991.49                                  400.00 yay!
Student loan 3   11,601.30                                  25.00
Student loan 4   10,008.14                                  110.00

The rest

Student loan 5    1,755.91                                  400.00 extra payments again!
Student loan 6    7,233.50                                  90.00

And the credit cards: Everything is paid off :D

Credit Card 1: paid off!
Credit Card 2: paid off!
Credit Card 3: paid off!

Total student loans: $70,435.69 and the month total is $1,050. I had extra money from my taxes that I just threw at my loans because I really wanted to get under the $2,000 mark and I made it. I can believe I can actually see a dent being made. I've been seeing a lot about the snowball effect lately online and though I think it's a great way to see progress being made I've been doing a slightly modified version of it. The thing with loans or credit cards is that they all have their own interest rates and the ones with the highest interest rates should be paid off first. I didn't do this first because I really want the smallest loan gone and then I'm going to use the extra money from that loan to go on my loan with the highest interest rate, my biggest loan.

Now that my credit cards are paid off I'm able to put more towards my loans and start to actually pay them off faster. It really has been a weight off my shoulders to get them paid off. I haven't been bringing in extra income from anywhere I'm still using what I normally make but since I'm not paying for my shopping addiction or my credit cards from my shopping addiction I'm making progress. It's sad but I always get excited for payday to see more of my loans come down each time. I love it!

My Lia Sophia business hasn't really taken off as I had hoped. With each party I've struggled to with getting bookings as well as keeping them. I'm all done with parties that I had previously booked but hopefully I can get someone to host a party and I can get it rolling with that again. Fingers crossed.

I know I've said it a million times in this post already but I'm SO EXCITED that I'm finally able to see my loans moving. When I started paying my loans back I originally had $73,000 and I'm down about $2,500. It might not be a whole lot but I don't make a lot of money and previously a lot of that was going to credit cards, now they will start moving quicker. :)

Here's to hoping!

  1. Although it may not seem a lot to you.. that's super impressive! Every penny counts when you got mountains of debt ahead of you and especially to have you credit cards paid off is also very impressive!

  2. Thanks, I couldn't be happier with the progress. I just anxious when I look at the total and see on the grand scheme of things how little it has actually moved. I'll be much happier when I see it go below $70,000. :) Hopefully next month!

  3. I think it's a good idea that you've done a modified version of the snowball effect. No one knows your finances better than you after all, so you would know what sort of budget and payment plan would work for you. When it comes to paying debts, every little bit of planning helps. I think you've done a great job so far, Lauren. Keep it up!
