Last week I was forced to go to Palm Desert for work. I know, I know, life is rough. Really though, it was warm and sunny - basically the opposite of Michigan currently. There is no easy way to get to the Palm Springs airport from Michigan so I had to take a connecting flight. Welp, ladies and gents, the coolest thing happened! Not only did I get sat in the first row behind first class and coach, where there is more room for your legs, but I also got sat next to Nate Solder of the New England Patriots!
(This is as close as I could find to what he really does look like in person, he's pretty cute - don't repeat that!)
I could still kick myself for not at least getting a picture, but I really didn't want to be annoying after the awesome 3 hour long convo we just had, but eh I still have a story to tell. Basically, the story starts like this: I always pick my seat when given the option and I always pick a window seat, but I wasn't so lucky this time and I was stuck in the middle. Great. On my right, a very quiet Asian guy who doesn't seem to have any interest in talking (but I also think he didn't speak English) and was more interested in looking out the window. Next thing I know a very tall guy sits down next to me. The guy hardly fit in his seat. My first thought was that he was in college, even though he did look older than me. Physically fit. Cute. Wearing normal clothes, dirty shoes, basically a very normal person. My thought process was that if he was a pro athlete, what is he doing in coach?
As he sat down, he was as snug as a bug in a rug. I asked if he was cozy and that was how the conversation got started. Over the duration of the 3 hour plane ride we talked about a variety of things. I didn't come right out and ask him if he played pro football, I didn't want to be rude or act like I was only talking to him because of that. He was a very genuine person. We talked about everything from my job, the NFL, his dogs, his house, my debt, our significant others, Michigan, Colorado (where he grew up), what we studied in college and even what he would be doing if he didn't go into the NFL. It was a very laid back causal conversation. It was very interesting to talk to someone who plays in the NFL and see their first hand perspective on it. I'll keep that part of the conversation all to myself :)
It was crazy to see how he, with so much money, was stressed/worried about having so much money and me, having now money and lots of debt, was probably a little less stressed than he was about it. Yeah, he could buy his 650,000 house in full and could complain about how it's too big for him, his 2 dogs and his one cat while I don't even live on my own. And yet even though we are in two very different parts of the economic scale, we are both at about the same on the happiness scale.
It really does validate that money can't buy your happiness. It can buy your freedom from debt and yest that would make me very happy, but the money itself isn't going to free you from all your daily worries, frustrations, relationships, or problems. It can only help aid in your financial freedom, nothing more, nothing less. With that said though, I've never seen anyone on a jet ski that looked unhappy and rich people can buy jet ski's. Just sayin.
Anywho, that's the story to how I met an NFL player and had a casual conversation.
My hotel in Palm Desert was huge! The weather was ridiculously hot (I'm not a fan) and I'm pretty sure no amount of water or beverages would keep me hydrated in the heat. I, studpidly, forgot my bathing suit so I had to buy one. One cool thing about this business trip was that you had to be a member in order to attend half of the events. Really, the first day was the only day that I could actually attend the events. So, I went and bought a bathing suit, laid out for most of the day Saturday and all morning Sunday (since my flight didn't leave till 6). I did, in the short time I was there, manage to get a bit of a tan and avoid all sorts of burning in the scorching sun! I was a happy kid. Especially since my skin hasn't seen the light of day in what, almost 6 months?! The only thing that sucked about my trip (other than the gym being so packed it was ridiculous) was that I was alone. I went on a trip to a pretty cool place, in the warm desert heat and I was alone. It sucked. No one to get into trouble with.
There was a golf course on the hotel grounds (it's probably fake grass since it's a desert)
There were also four pools!
This sounds like the most disgusting thing ever. It's a real scorpion inside and it's banana flavored. Eck!
Haha and this just made me laugh. I found it on Pinterest so I sent a picture to my boyfriend. He got a kick out of it.
That was my weekend in a nutshell. I hope some of the Califonia weather makes its way over to Michigan sometime soon! I sure could use some more fun in the sun, but with friends this time around.
