Well to get to my point, Kareem Addul-Jabar recently wrote an article/post about things he wish he'd known when he was 30. Now, I'm not quite close to 30 just yet but there are still some valuable lessons to learn here. The man is smart, and I'm not just saying that from his wise knowledge that he has collected over time. I mean that he is actually smart, he likes to read and all that jazz. I like reading, but they are fictional books about things that either make me laugh or have me on the edge of my seat. He reads
When reading the article I noticed that most of the things he refers to are based around a few simply philosophies; spend more time with family, don't over-stress an issue, think outside the box and be open to trying new things. I think there are all very wise things for us to do regularly. Yeah, I stress about my loans every single day of my life, thinking about how I'm going to make due for the next one but it doesn't have to over come my life. I just need to be smarter about it and move onto something else. Have a plan for your life but also be open to spontaneous moments - that's where the good stuff is.
I think my favorite on his list is be patient. We live in an instant society. We click a link and we get angry when it takes more than 3 seconds for the next page to load. It's ok. Remember, there was a time you had to wait a whole minute! You're going to get the information you need eventually, it just might not be at that very second. So, take a breath, calm down and wait. This is something I'm getting better with all the time but it is most certainly a constant battle.
I hope you guys enjoy the list and can find a piece of advice you'll take away from it. I know I sure did.
